How to take care of the right amount of oxygen in an aquarium?
Water aeration in the aquarium is necessary to maintain the health and well-being of the fish - thanks to this, water purification processes also take place in the filter. In this article we will describe the most popular methods of aeration.
Aeration with internal filter
Most internal filters have a hose that removes air from the aquarium. Then it passes through the filter chamber and leaves with a stream of water.
If the filter does not have an air duct, it can be placed just below the surface of the water so that it constantly moves - this also helps in aeration of the water.
Aerating the water using an external filter with a rain shower.
After installing an external filter with a rain shower, you can get two options that significantly improve the aeration of the water. The first of these is a rain shower, located above the surface of the water, directing flows vertically downward, simulating drops of water falling into the tank. This is a very effective solution in terms of oxygen supply, and also very effective. The second is a rain shower located below the surface of the water and directed upward (not vertically). In this situation, we get a ripple effect, which will lead to a significant improvement in aeration in the aquarium. A rain shower also reduces the flow of water in the aquarium (which is useful when the filter performance is too large compared to the size of the aquarium).

The movement of water flowing from the cascade filter is sufficient for good oxygenation of the aquarium. The higher it is located above the water level, the more efficient aeration, but the louder the filter. A cascade filter provides fewer customization options than other types of filters, but it is also a very effective solution.
Buzzer - Aeration Pump Aeration
a pump is a good solution for both small and large aquariums. It consists of a small motor, an air duct, and an aeration unit (tape or curtain) that breaks the air stream into many tiny bubbles. There are three types of pumps - diaphragm, piston and rotary. The pump power should be selected depending on the capacity of the aquarium. It’s good to keep a certain supply and buy a more efficient pump, because in the future we will be able to use the device for 2 or even 3 tasks at the same time (for example, connecting an internal sponge filter and an aeration cube or supporting 2 tanks).

By using these methods of aeration, we will avoid problems with oxygen deficiency in the aquarium. It is worth remembering that you must aerate the water all the time and do not turn off the aeration device at night. A natural method of aeration of water is to plant a large number of plants in the aquarium and provide them with adequate lighting.
