How much fish feed is needed daily?
The amount of fish consumed per day depends on many factors.
Daily food intake is different in individual species. In the same species, this diet varies depending on the age of the fish, the quality of the feed, the season of the year, the condition of the fish, and the concentration of feeding fish.
Usually, young fish consume relatively more food than old fish. The daily feed intake by fish larvae is equal to their mass, i.e. one hundred%.
The amount of feed consumed per day depends on the quality of the feed itself. A different amount of food eaten is directly related to its calorie content and sometimes digestibility.
The intensity of feed intake depends on the condition of the fish. During spawning, many fish stop eating. More well-fed eat less food than less-well-fed ones.
Daily food intake also depends on the concentration of feeding fish. Moreover, juveniles at higher concentrations feed more intensively than at low ones. In adult fish, on the contrary, at significant concentrations, the intensity of nutrition decreases.
It is known that fish grows all their lives, only at different speeds. In accordance with this, she eats. You need to know the approximate need for fish feed.
Here are the data on its daily consumption (at the optimal content mode):
- from the moment of transition to active nutrition to two weeks of age - 150-170% of the weight of the fish;
- from two weeks to one month - 80-100%;
- from one to two months - 30%;
- from two months to the moment of separation by gender - 15%;
- from the moment of separation by sex until full maturity - 5-10%;
- manufacturers - 3-5%.
In the pre-spawning period, the feed mass is increased by 1-2%; during spawning, producers are usually not fed; after spawning, the fish are kept on a diet for two days, reducing the usual amount of food by 1-2%.
Feeding regimen. Most adult fish are fed with an interval of 8 hours (except at night), food residues are removed half an hour after feeding; young growth - after 6 hours, cleaning - also after half an hour; fry at the age of 1-2 months - 4 times a day, cleaning - in an hour; juveniles up to one month - 1 time in 3-4 hours (at night it is necessary to turn on a weak backlight and preferably feed), cleaning - after 2 hours. Fry up to two months of age should be twice a day (go after each feeding) as much as possible and replace up to a third of the volume of water with fresh water of the same chemical composition and temperature or move them to another container with settled water.
You should always remember that live and fresh feed (less frozen) is more complete and physiological than substitutes - compound feeds, feed mixtures, etc.
Adult fish and growing juveniles, determined by sex, need to arrange an unloading day every day (do not give food at all), replacing part of the water in the aquarium.
Introduce new food components or change the “menu” It is necessary gradually - daily up to 10-15% of the diet. New, previously known mi foods cannot be used immediately. First you need to test them on a group of experimental fish in a separate container. The best advisers in the selection of feeds are the fish themselves (or rather, their reaction to a particular food).
The size of the feed objects should correspond to the size of the mouth of the fish. Feeding can start one hour after turning on the light in the aquarium and end one hour before turning off (the time required to clean up the rest of the feed and fish excrement).
