Brazilian pinnacle, Cinnamon red, Cactifolia caudate
The grass is called Brazilian cinnamon, it belongs to the family of shale perennial. This herb comes from North and South America.
Cinnamon leaf is a beautiful long-stemmed plant that has a light green color of leaves and stem. This plant is widely distributed among aquarists of various stripes, as it is easily accessible - just dive into a freshwater pond and look for it properly. This weed can be successfully kept in aquariums of any volume, since it is not demanding on the conditions of detention.
For a successful cultivation of pinnacle, a tropical and moderately warm aquarium is suitable. The water temperature at which the hydrophyte normally develops lies in the range of 18 - 26 degrees. There were cases when the plant withstood short-term temperature drops of up to 13 degrees. He really did suspend his growth a little, but on the whole he didn’t.
For pinnacle need soft water with a hardness of not more than 6 degrees and with a weakly acidic or neutral active reaction of the medium (pH in the range 5.5 - 7.0). If you plan to keep grass in your aquarium, then pay close attention to the cleanliness of the reservoir. Thin-cut and delicate leaves of cinnamon do not like settling turbidity, since it can disrupt their nutrition through water. In the future, this will lead to the death of all leaves, and then the plant itself. Yes, and do not forget to regularly replace ¼ - 1/5 of the water.
But to the lighting conditions, the grass is quite demanding. Lighting in the aquarium should be bright and intense. If there is not enough light, the plant will begin to stretch upwards and its leaves will lose all their juicy color. Cinnamon dots love natural light, but direct sunlight will be detrimental to it, because it will immediately be occupied by algae, which will begin to grow right on the leaves.
The power of the lamp should be such that the rest of the aquarium plants do not suffer from a lack or excess of light, so try to adhere to an average value of 0.5 W per liter of volume. But with the length of daylight there is a small feature. When the plant had enough light per day, it will begin to fold leaves. If you saw this moment, then the light must be turned off in the aquarium after half an hour.
Unfortunately, pinnacle leaves have a weak root system, which is also very tender. The best substrate for it is sand, laid in an aquarium with a thin layer (2-3 centimeters) with moderate siltation. You can also grow a plant floating in the water column. In natural reservoirs, it grows mainly. Hydrophyte does not need additional mineral top dressing, since it is enough for those trace elements and nutrients that come with water changes and fish food.
Brazilian cinnamon dwarf propagates by cuttings of the stem. If the hydrophyte lashes have grown greatly, then they need to be shortened by removing the top, which is then planted in the aquarium soil and the lower whorl with leaves is buried in it. Subsequently, roots will form near this whorl. In the winter season, when natural light is not enough, the pinnacle need to be given time to relax by lowering the temperature of the water in the bank, although this is not a prerequisite. This process occurs automatically, because after the summer, when the water temperature reaches 33 degrees, in the winter it will drop to the temperature set on the thermostat itself. With good artificial light, the plant can grow well throughout the year.
Under natural conditions, red cinnamon leaves grows naturally in South America: Ecuador, Peru and Brazil. The plant mainly grows in the water column, but sometimes it can be seen growing above the surface of the water along the sandy banks of the rivers. I immediately want to note that the plant is quite demanding in content and it can be recommended to trained aquarists.
The plant has a decorative appearance and this is mainly due to its short stature - under aquarium conditions, the height of the plant does not exceed 40 cm. The leaves of the red pinnatifolia have a finely dissected structure and are 3-4 leaves in a whorl. The length of the leaf plate can reach 5 cm. The stems of the plant branch strongly, forming spectacular dense thickets. In bright light and water rich in mineral fertilizers, the leaves of the plant acquire a reddish-golden color. Under acceptable conditions, the cinnamon can bloom, releasing small flowers in the axils of leaves located under water.
It is desirable to plant a plant in large groups of 10-15 bushes in the central part of the aquarium, or along its edges. In bright light, it grows very quickly and as a result forms colorful thickets that contrast beautifully with other plants in the aquarium. The aquarium for growing these plants should not be too high - its height should not exceed 50 cm, otherwise the red cirrus leaf will obviously not have enough light intensity without which it is virtually impossible to get a beautiful look and color. Subject to all conditions, the red cinnamon leaves grows 10 cm per week.
Water parameters must satisfy the following conditions: temperature 22-30 ° C, hardness dH 4-12 °, acidity pH 6.2-7.0. Effective water filtration is required, as well as a weekly replacement of ¼ of the aquarium water with fresh.
The soil should be slightly sandy. A prerequisite is the regular feeding of the plant with CO2 and the introduction of liquid complex fertilizers into the water.
Lighting should be bright, its intensity should be at least 0.6 W / l. The plant should be in an open place in the aquarium, where the rays of light, but not direct sunlight, can freely reach its leaves. The daylight hours should be at least 10 hours a day.
Propagate red is propagated only by cuttings, because It is unlikely to grow it from seeds (this is rarely possible even in nature). In order to get a new plant on the mother bush, a side branch is cut and left to float freely on the surface of the aquarium water for 15 days. During this time, the plant will let small roots and when planting in the soil, in which you first need to put a piece of clay, it will take more quickly.
Homeland - South and North America.
This plant is widespread among aquarists. Since it is suitable for keeping in an aquarium of any capacity and is relatively unpretentious.
Comfortable water parameters for the content: temperature 18-26 ° С (can withstand a short-term temperature drop to 12-14 ° С). Hardness up to 6 ° with a neutral or slightly acid reaction pH 5.5-7. Is regular weekly spoofing very important? volume of water, the plant does not like turbidity.
The light should be bright. With a lack of lighting, the pinnacle is extended, and its leaves lose their juicy color. Natural diffused light is very useful to him, but the plant must be protected from direct sunlight, since it is very afraid of fouling with algae.
The root system of the plant is poorly developed, therefore, it is best to use sand with a layer of 2-3 cm, moderately silted, as soil.
The plant does not need additional fertilizing with mineral fertilizers.
Cinnamon leaves easily propagated by cuttings of the stem.
